Yeah, for those that don't know, most of those rounds you saw were tracer rounds. When it looked like glowing hot chunks of the vehicle were flying off, those were actually tracer rounds which help the gunner aim at night. Depending on the type of weapon, every few rounds is a tracer round so the gunner can get a good idea of where his/her shots are going.

anyone wanna hazard a guess at the cost of an avg burst from a mini gun?
how much are the shells and how fast can a mini shoot?

But then also remember, that means there's actually about 4 times as many bullets being fired as it appears. :Q

The one in the middle was Metallica doing one of their covers off Garage Days/Garage Inc. Can't remember exactly which one.
