Hi, on those miniDV tapes is there any roll over added to the tape? I mean it says 1 hour on it, but in usage is it really 1 hour or is there a couple of extra minutes on it? i know some DAT tapes have like 1 extra minute in it in case of over usage.

I ask because i want to tape this 1 hour show to a miniDV tape from TV I will then transfer it to my computer to mpeg. I usually do this via the analogue RCA ports and have it record directly to my DV Cam from the RCA out of my VCR. I know there are no commercials and i would like to have a little lead time in the beginning and end for editing purposes.

I like to stay out of LP mode whenever possible, but if i have to i'll use LP mode for this to be safe. I figure an extra minute or 2 is all i need.

I use Maxell miniDV tapes.

thanks

Yeah, there is, but it varies. I've had tapes with 2 extra minutes, and I've had tapes with 2 seconds extra. Why don't you just forward the tape to the end, and see where it ends?
