MiniDV camera and noise from tape ?

hergehen

Senior member
Hello,

I just got a JVC GR-DVL920U MiniDV camera for my birthday ...

but there is one problem, whenever I try to record on a tape or play a tape, there's a sound, like mechanical sound, from the tape 🙁 it's quite annoying 🙁 ... and actually I think it even records on the tape itself, when I'm recording in the quiet room 🙁

anybody had such problems ?

is it bad tape ? ...

I bought 6 of them from Sam's Club: Maxell MiniDV 60min ...

Thanks.

i know what sound you're talking about but I don't think I've ever had a problem with it actually being recorded onto the tape

It's not the tape. It's your camcorder. Small camcorders are plagued with the motor noise problem. Get a directional microphone.

Probably not the tape, just picking up (recording) the motor drive built inside the camera. I have a ZR40 MiniDV and that 'motor drive noise' was a big issue with many people. It's not a problem on my unit, for me anyway. What you could do is get an external mic (if your camera has this feature) like Lupohki suggested. Try a google search on your camera model and/or hang around at some video editing forums - you'll get lots of specific feedback - this is what I did.
