MiniDisc's storage capacity?

I'm talking in MBs... I've always wondered this - I know they store around 74 minutes of audio in ATRAC format but how many megs of storage is actually on it? I wonder why they never caught on in the data storage market...

Probably not much. It's the compression that allows it to store that much. I actually remember they had a data drive that used minidisc.

They're still around. I think Sony has some camcorders that use MD data discs. These are, of course, different than regular MDs

Cool.. That's not so bad, actually.. I mean, it would be a viable alternative to say zip drives..

Lol, this comment reminded me of this old thread in General Hardware. 😛 I personally would've loved an MD drive if they were widely adopted and cost competitive, but alas Sony left it by the wayside for too long to be useful. 🙁

Yeah, it's 160MB.

We still use minidiscs at work to record programs and such. They're a very reliable source for storing portable audio.
