Mini-Tower vs. Rack ?

I'm building a network and I'm looking at getting a server. I was wondering if one is better than the other, or maybe what are the advantages/disadvantages to both. I only need one server to control a lab of about 20 computers. I would need to do a little bit of upgrading to it (memory). Other than that, I'm not sure which to choose. What should I go with?

Feel free to ask me questions about my potential setup.

If space is a big concern for you, go for RACK, but they tend to be more expensive to build (buy). Functionality wise, pretty much the same.

What would be the point in getting a rack for just one computer? I think would take up much more space than a single tower server. Is there anything I'm missing here?

Where would you put the rack? 🙂

A tower case would certainly be adequate for a small lab and would be cheaper and easier to maintain, imho.

I'm not saying I would need to buy a Rack like Russ has, I'm talking about a briefcase size server (yes, they were probably made to be placed on a rack), compared to a tower case.

The actual case that the server is in will not affect performance. The question is, do you need the extra space enough to justify the expense of a rack? When you say "briefcase" size I think of 2U, and you'd probably need a switch of some sort and maybe a patch panel. That could all go on an 8U rack easily. But again, if you're short of space, go for a rack, if not, well then its just a question of whether or not you want it.
