The Logitech G610 is not, technically, my first mechanical keyboard. Somewhere I have a PS/2 keyboard from an IBM PS/2 from 1986 with all its buckling spring goodness.

I have, however, never had a mechanical gaming keyboard until now. The G610 is a basic keyboard. Not quite no-frills, but nothing fancy.

In a rarity, it has white LEDs not red or blue or RGB. Personally, I've had cars with red and blue and now one with white LEDs and I prefer white LEDs.

The keyboard has media keys on the right side above the number pad. Good for me as I'm left-handed and can keep my hand on the mouse and adjust volume if necessary. For me, good media keys were a must and the volume bar, which is a wide rolling wheel that feels really nice. It's wide enough that it's actually easy to roll using three fingers (which feels nicer than rolling with a thumb or one finger)

You can set per key lighting if you want and there are various lighting patterns you can use, none of which I liked much. A simple, muted solid level (there are like 5 different leves) is what I chose.

I've never used Cherry keys before and debated on red or brown. But settled on brown for the tactile bump you get at activation point. The activation point is really soft. For some reason I expected more resistance.

The keys feel spongy when used. It's a really odd feeling. It's not bad and I assume it's what all Cherry Browns would feel like. Also, the keys aren't very loud.

There really isn't much else to the keyboard. It has no USB hub or pass through. It has no audio pass through for headphones. For me, I didn't need either. I have USB on my monitor and have my mouse and keyboard plugged into that. While I do use headphones, I have an extension cable (Monoprice for $3) running from the back of my computer and attached to the underside of my monitor. It kind of looks like its supposed to be there. I'd rather not have to deal with any interference from a cheap pass through.

That's it. It's a keyboard. It types things. I'm not sure spending $100 on a keyboard is a good idea. But... like the mouse and monitor it's something you interact with all the time.

It sounds as loud as the brown does in the video. But that's only if you mash the keys down as hard as he was in the video.

Because the Brown keys have a slight resistance at the activation point you don't actually have to pound on the keys. Because of that, the keys are as quiet as my previous keyboard, a bottom of the barrel Logitech membrane keyboard.

I'd say if I'm typing that one out of ten key strokes are loud. For gaming, it can be louder as I'm more likely to hit the keys harder.
