i don't know what the deal is with partition magic and xp, but something is not right. i have a fresh install of xp, so everything should theoretically work.... except in 3 usages, i have yet to go through a complete operation successfully.

the first time, i was creating a 10 gb partition... went fine, up to step 3 of 3... then it stopped. and did nothing. for a long long time.

so i reboot...
and thankfully was able to get into windows... from there i formatted the partition using windows' tool.

then today, i decided i wanted another partition, this one 50 gb.
it goes to the screen where it says PM is preparing for operations, and then it does nothing.

so i reboot...
then it goes, and resizes partitions, then does nothing

so i reboot...
goes into windows (since original info has changed)... and naturally, windows shows the resized partitions, but not the missing space.
so i go into partition magic, and tell it to create a partition using the empty space. works fine, gets to 80%... the system locks up. i can't move my mouse.

so i reboot...
and through whatever stroke of luck, everything is the way i want it when i log in.

now you see why i wonder what's going on with PM...

Many programs like PM (firewalls, antivirus software etc.) have problems when running in XP.

Blame Micros~1.

I've never had a single problem using PM in Win95/98/2k, haven't tried in XP (and propably never will..).

I've had too many problems with partition magic in the past to trust it. I prefer to do clean format and partitioning. Also, XP has an updated version of NTFS. Is PM compatible with the new NTFS?

Yeah but the XP uses an updated version of the NTFS filesystem ;)

I've never trusted these sort of partition tools - I'd never trust my [/i]live[/i] data with it.

it's still very troublesome even though i'm using PM 7.0, something is very wrong, i have to redo the task many times to get it done, very annoying and needless to say, very uncomforting.

yes i do...

which is why i still blame PM... if it's not going to work, you shouldn't advertise it as such.
