Mini PCI?

Anyone know about Mini PCI in laptops?
Is this really new? Do lower end laptops ever have this?
I want to add in an integrated ethernet card to my compaq 2182US.
I doubt it seeing it is cheap.

It only costs $30 bucks, awesome add on to those who can do it themselves 😉
Let me know.

Most laptops I've seen have the mini PCI slots right at the bottom of the unit, accessible by one or two screws. It should be fairly easy to open it up and pop it in.

Well the Computer does have a mini pci. And other models of the same have built in wireless lan. This model doesn't. Do you think it will actually work if I put a wireless card in? how does the compatability work?
It has a modem and ethernet built in but it is not a mini pci. The Mini PCI is empty.
Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Frank

I understand that I will have to run an antenna or two as well. Anyone ever try this? I bet it is hard as hell....but possible.
Any info or links greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Frank

If it doesn't have the antenna leads already present in the mini-PCI bay, then you are probably better off going with a PCMCIA wireless card. If it doesn't have the antennas built-in, then the hardest part about putting an internal WI-FI card will probably be to locate the antennas for that unit.
