Mini PCI and PC cards

Mini-PCI cards refer to the internal cards installed in laptops.

PC Cards refer to the renamed PCMCIA standard, which is the cards that are installed in the side of the laptop externally, and hot swappable.

That is correct. I'd like to add that the only function where mini-pci and pc cards can overlap on is wireless adapters. Other than that, there is no peripheral that can be purchased for both the mini-pci and pci interfaces.

The mini-pci interface can be used for tv tuners and wireless adapters.

the pc card slot can be used for everything from USB ports to firewire to sound cards to ethernet adapters to modems to external hard drives/optical drivers to wireless adapters.
