My slimline Gateway pre-built has a security slot, as does my 25.5" Hannspree monitor from Staples.

But are there any enthusiast mini-ITX cases that also have a lock slot? Is the reason, licensing fees? I may be setting up a public-access computer, and a Kensington lock slot would seem to be a virtual necessity.

i havent seen any because when u get to a pc grade of that nature, its not left at the office unattended for days and days on end.

Also correct me if im wrong, but dont those security slots on PC's only protect the computer from being removed?
If someone knew what they were doing, they could open the side pannel and remove all the stuff internally, while leaving u with the bare shell attached to the cable.

Larry... look up intel's new NUC PC Qs77

I am building one.
The hardware looks sound, and its boltable to the monitor directly from behind, also may fit what ur asking for.

IDK... never comparison shopped for an ITX case with a lock.

What are the needs of this public access computer? If just for web browsing, how about using a VESA mounted mini system and a lockable monitor? Sure it can still be stolen with tools, but if someone had tools they can cut the cable.

I would assume (but not sure) that if someone steals a computer it would be a theft of opportunity, as in they walked by and nobody was watching.

The location of the security slot on the Gateway slimline, is where the cover meets the chassis, so you cannot open the case when the lock is in place.

best bet would be to go to a computer store and poke around? There's a chance that they'll be tough to find as home-built PCs aren't usually intended for the enterprise.

Does it have to be an ITX case? maybe something bigger or smaller with a lock?

A couple times at work on the first floor of the presidents office there was a laptop that was stolen from a conference room used for job interviews. If people see something unattended then it is sometimes easily stolen. The same thing has happened to a few purses left out in the open. Both should be locked up.
