Just purchased (mid-August delivery) the 'NCase M1' chassis, one of the smallest of the Mini-ITX cases. (https://www.ncases.com/)

Other components will probably be the Corsair SF600 PSU, Asus Z170I Pro Gaming MB, Corsair AIO H100iV2 or the EKWB Predator 240 AIO (might not fit), GSkill mem, nVidia 1080-FE, and a 1TB SSD.

I would like to get custom, shorter power supply cables as the M1 case has little working room. But, I'm not sure how much shorter I can get each cable for that PSU and MB.

Thoughts on these choices and cable issue...

The cables are well suited for mini-itx builds, of course more perfection can always be attained with custom cable lengths, but I don't think you'll be unhappy. I'm betting that the Predator won't fit the M1, but I don't recall reading for certain either way, just eyeballing it. You'll probably want to go with a Corsair unit or I'd try out the Cryorig AIO (it has a small fan on the block/pump to aid in general socket area component cooling. Of course you could go full custom but space will become more of a concern. Not that you're asking but consider an M.2 drive rather than the 1TB SSD, that's one more thing that won't be taking up space and two less cables to run.

Edit: I saw that you already had a 1TB Evo, I guess you'll be reusing that.

There is a huge M1 thread over on [H]ardforums: https://hardforum.com/threads/ncase-m1-a-crowdfunded-mini-itx-case-updates-in-first-post.1717132/ Feel free to signup and ask questions or search the thread for parts advice

According to this recent post the Predator fits but you have to fiddle with it: https://hardforum.com/threads/ncase...n-first-post.1717132/page-512#post-1042424214

Yes, thanks... very familiar w/ that thread... I actually asked the question there that prompted that response.... :) I am 'RIRed48' user-name there.

Considering the Silverstone SX600G PSU along with the Corsair SF600 and 450...

The reviews I've seen of the Corsair complain of the cabling being stiffer than that of the Silverstone, cable management may easier with the Silverstone.

Wow, nice case. On my list for future builds.

Hey Nerp...

I'm from Rhode Island (Johnston... don't tell anyone...lol), and I used to work for IBM a long time ago.... !! :)

Yes, the case is sweet, and it's so small I may put it right on my desktop.

Just learned of the 80+ Platinum rated (and with 120mm fan) Silverstone SFX700-L PSU that could be used in the NCase M1 chassis...

BUT, as 'rfarmer' shows at the massive Hard Forums' M1 case thread (post #20510, page 513), that the 700 Silverstone SFX-L will "push down on the larger video cards causing them to sag." :(

If it wasn't for that, I'd be strongly considering it along with the Corsair 450 and 600.

Ahhh, home to the Central Landfill.

Johnston isn't a bad town. Thankfully, these days, people don't automatically associate it with DJ Pauly D so much anymore.

:) Thank God for that. Good guy, magician Matt Franco from Johnston that won AGT 2 yrs ago... :)

I have friends at some other forums who think I should cancel the M1 case order and get a larger Mini-ITX case that would be a lot easier build to assemble, like the Phanteks Evolv...

If I stick with the M1, then I'll get the SX Corsair SF600 PSU rather than that Silverstone L version that creates fit issues.

And much less satisfying when complete. The Phanteks is a big fat itx case starved for airflow. If you really want to waste some space there are better space wasting itx cases with much better airflow. ;-)

The M1 is a brilliant 12.5L jewel that looks great on the desk. The Evolv is a bog standard case that looks best placed under the desk where it can't be seen.

I have a small cube ITX case with a 200 mm fan in the front; Thermaltake V1 is a surprisingly well built case for its smaller total size. It is only a little over 1 foot square. The design where the motherboard sits horizontally with the power supply below it gives more room above the motherboard for a CPU Cooler.

It is kind of cute also.

It runs very quiet.

Sticking with the M1.... :)

Be prepared in about 2-3 weeks when my questions start coming in about needing help putting that build together in such tight M1 quarters... My M1 is shipping between July 27 and August 3rd...

Can't decide whether to get an internal or external DVD/RW...

It does cost a $100 more too though, are there any itx cases like the M1 that doesn't cost and arm and a leg?

Even though I bought a 2nd top panel for the optical slot I never installed it. I ended up with an external drive: room for more ssds down the road, much cheaper, portable so you can use it with multiple systems, and most of all I havent used it with the M1 since I installed the OS.

As for building in the case its not that hard. With all the panels off it seems bigger than it actually is, just take your time and test fit parts and install order before locking everything down.

Thanks. What external drive did you get?
