I'm already planning for college next fall and I'm looking to purchase a mini-fridge as a present for myself for Christmas. I don't really think there's anything special I need to look for, but since there might be and I hate buying something until I'm really confident about it, I'm curious if anyone knows of anything I should look for (ie, name brands, specs, blah blah etc).

Otherewise I'm just going to pick a cheap one up from Super Walmart in town today :p

No suggestions. Might want to rent the micro-fridge, as most colleges offer it. Usually they don't allow microwaves in dorms these days.

So you want me to just walk into a dorm room and take one? Hah. :p I'm transferring from another school, so I don't even know which dorm I'm going to be in next year...

Or walk around the dorms after everyone moves out at the end of the year, you can get some good stuff. I picked up 3 of the small fridges that way, 2.5cubic foot ones. People are just too lazy to take them home I guess.

My score last May:
3 fridges
1 arm chair
1 living room table
1 couch
2 foldable chairs
1 night stand
1 night light
1 stereo (cassete is broken but the radio works)
and some other stuff

And my college is small (1800), imagine what it is like at big universities:D

They sell them on-campus for like $60. Don't bother buying one in advance, just more to carry. Use the freezer for frozen burritos and always remember to have a 32oz. of gatorade on stand-by for hangovers. Swigging from it liberally during the course of the night goes a long way in avoiding hangovers.
