Mini Dv to DVD conversion

So my Sony Mini DV camcorder just went to the Technology place in the sky and 'm stuck with @ 20 Mini DV tapes that I need converted.

Anyone have any recommendations on a company that does this with reasonable rates?

I have one place on EBAY, gotmemories_az they charge @ $6 a tape plus you pay to ship to them. They have a good rating but I'd prefer something local that I don't have to mail these all away. I'm in NYC so if anyone has any recommendations it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have a friend with a mini dv camcorder? If so, borrow theirs, connect it to your computer, and transfer it that way. If not, then the ebay place sounds like a good price. The only local place I found wanted $20/tape 😱.

what I cant figure is why so much? $20-$25 a tape to drop it in a Mini DV reader and copy it to a 20 cent DVD.

Businesses charge what customers will pay. If they could charge $40 per tape and take less than a 50% reduction in business, then they'd charge that. If they could increase their profits by charging $10 per tape, then they'd do that. $20 per tape probably makes them the most profit, and that's what business is all about.

Also have to consider the time it takes. MiniDV is realtime to the PC, then needs to be encoded out to the DVD.

As mentioned, your best bet is to see first if a friend who is dv cam equipped can help you out and loan you their cam. Mind you, as mentioned in the post prior to this one, you also have to consider the amount of time and HD space you'll need to do this yourself. I guess it's just a matter of how much time and effort you're willing to spend vs. sending them all away and having a business take care of it all for you. $20.00 per tape does seem a bit expensive though :\. Guess you've now got a good reason to get a flash memory cam instead!
