Miners trapped in Chile, guess how long it will take to bring them up?

Update: So there's only a few hours left until they start bringing those guys up. From what I read, a lot of careful planning has gone into this rescue attempt and it looks impressive. I like the fact that they're gonna send a paramedic down there first to check up on the miners and then divide them up into three groups for prioritization. The rescue capsule also looks pretty smartly built.

Rescue operation

So how long until David Blaine attempts something similar just for kicks?

They're in a huge shelter room. Big enough that they could operate some of the equipment down there for lights and dig trenches for water.

They will be able to supply them water, food, medicine, fresh air, and other supplies through the hole already drilled. Hopefully some puzzle books. A lot of puzzle books.

2 months of people using the bathroom all over the place. Sounds like fun... that situation would suck so badly. :(

The bathroom situation and no showering (assume they can probably only sponge bathe) is going to make for a pretty rank situation in a few months.

Good god. Whenever you think your job sucks...just think about sitting in the same cube for 4 months straight, having to crap in it, and people bring you food...with no internet access. Sunlight. Reasonably fresh air. Ect. And you are in there with 33 other coworkers who aren't able to really bathe either.

They can't make the hole bigger to fit people through?

Exactly. Like that other rescue when they brought the miners up in a small enclosure, they looked cramped but they were up. (It was a USA rescue, shaft was like a catscan tube.)

I guess it depends on how much trouble they have with the casing to line the drill hole. If it goes in without any problems, they could start extricating the miners as early as tomorrow.

I'll bet those fellows will be glad to see sunlight again!

Some of them won't. A few of them were married and had girlfriends on the side. Both the wifey and side trim showed up at the site to pray for the same guy and they found out about each other. I'm betting they'll volunteer to be last out.

 Yeah, I suppose they might volunteer to stay behind and get things cleaned up...for the next 10 years or so...

Mine collapsed August 5th, 2010, 2,300 feet below ground. They have been sending capsules that carry food, clean clothes, medicine and other supplies down through a narrow borehole to their underground cavern.

The 33 miners will be lifted out one by one over a 3 to 7 day process depending on further complications.

They have been in 90-degree heat, 90% humidity for almost 70-days with no showers and no toilets.
