Minecraft on XBox

Grandson received Minecraft for 6th bday.

Apparently there is some option that can be obtained that allows him to do multi-player and/or split screen.

Where can I locate information on what he may be talking about?
What little I know of this came from his mother.

TIA

I've been playing with my 6 yr old son on Xbox One. Here's how I get split screen to work.

1. Log in with son's account have him start his Minecraft Game.
2. On 2nd controller hit menu button
3. This will prompt you to log in with a second a profile. Log in.
4. Split screen happens and you can both play.

After following some of the leads here

1) I have an HDMI cable that is needed
2) The XBox is attached to a HD TV

so 1+2 = 3
I instructed that the HDMI be attached to the TV and the XBox
And a YouTube Video be watched to explain how to setup the XBox to use the MultiPlayer/Split Screen

I expect that the grandson will start to be playing online against cousins and friends

As cabri mentioned at the end, I don't recommend letting him play with strangers, a few users on Xbox Live are nasty people.
