Each time, notice that the picture you pick is next to several numbers. No matter what number you take, you will always wind up with a predetermined number. IE, take 55 -5 = 50, -5 = 45... 56 -6 = 50, -5 =45.

No matter what number you pick, when you subtract the second digit, you wind up with an even 10's number such as 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. this leaves only 9 possible outcomes for no matter what number you pick.

SPOILER:

Pick any number from 90-99
What do you get after applying the formula?
81
The answer is always whatever the symbol is in 81
or 72
or 63
or 54...

Get the idea? You're subtracting the 1s digit to make it 50, 60, 70 etc. then you're subtracting the 10s digit to make it the factor of 9. The same symbol is always in a factor of 9.
Amazing.
Yes I know I got it backwards but it works the same way anyway.

Edit: Grr at Macbaine for beating me to it.

I love these.

Actually, what it does is that your number will always be dvisible by 9, so it cjust randomly switch symbols so that all answeres divisible by 9 will have the same symbol.

so, let x=whatever number you chose, a=first digit, b=second digit

the calculation is x-a-b (75-7-5)

but x=10(a) +1(b),

so

(10a+b)-a-b

or

=9a,

so the final number will always be divisbile by 9... as long as it stays within their set domain

I figured it out...the sign changes everytime you play the game..sooo, all the numbers that have the ending result will have the same sign.

Ah. Interesting. It didn't work the first time (I can't subtract, either  ), but it did the next time I tried it.
