Hi all,

I am testing a server for a local event and I'm curious what hardware specs are needed to run 32 players.

So far I ran the server with 26 bots and it only lagged when there was a lot of action. I presume that bots would take up more resources than a human computer and the server would survive 32 actual players?

this is a newcastle amd3000+ with 1.5gb ram.

btw windows xp modded to run a server if that makes a difference

*shrug* Install a hardware-monitoring tool, start up a game, and look at your CPU/memory usage over time?

I don't know anything about running a TF2 server, but it just seems like a logical thing to do. You don't even need any extra software. Just press Ctrl+Shift+Esc in Windows and click on the Performance Tab. If the CPU and/or the RAM are maxing out at 100% at any time, then you need better hardware.

that may work if I had a 32 players constantly. I need to speculate because I need to know ahead of time whether 32 works fine.

It isn't much at all. A buddy of mine runs 5 source servers on a single, last-generation quad core Xeon. Each instance runs at ~600mb memory usage, all them are modded, and all of them are usually full.

nice lol. How does he run more than 1 server? Does he use multiple IPs or change the ports? Will the server browser work if you change the default port?

No clue. All I do is run the Minecraft server, on the same box, lol.

To run multiple servers you assign each server its own port. Why would you use multiple IPs?

About the server browser I am pretty sure it will detect your server. Google and see what port ranges you can use for TF2 servers.

If the port has to remain the same then you would have to use more than one IP. Seemed like all source servers use 27015. I will play around with adding a l4d server or something.
