Hi all,

It's time for me to upgrade my render nodes and decided to go with a Mini ITX motherboard and i7 2600k combination. The CPUs will run on 100% for long periods of time as they will be used for rendering. I want to keep everything AS COMPACT AS POSSIBLE and for that reason I am going to need a low- profile PSU.

So, basically each render node will consist of:
Mini ITX motherboard (with integrated GPU)
i7 2600K CPU
4 GB DDR3
1 HDD 7200RPM

I will not use dedicated graphics card and will not overclock the CPUs.

Can you please tell me what is the minimum power supply that I will need. Then I will just add 50W to be on the safe side.

Thanks a lot, guys.

P.S. I used an on-line PSU calculator and the result was approximately 190W PSU. Is that result trustworthy?

Thanks for the help, fffblackmage.

That's awesome news. So 250W low-power will suffice completely even if the CPU is under 100% load most of the time, right?

Seasonic, Silverstone or FSP. I have a SeaSonic SS-300TFX running a Q8400 mitx system myself and have had no issues.
I would say look for the case you want to use then look for the largest PSU to fit.

I used an Inwin that came with a PSU and replaced it with the Seasonic.

Thanks WoodButcher. I am actually not going for a case. I already have a custom made filing cabinet for the PCs which I decided to ditch and will build something much more compact (hence the Mini ITX form factor).

Thanks a lot guys.

I like to build my own too but the SG06 is really tempting. Their 450 psu is said to be top notch but if your going to build decide which psu will fit best with your layout. I modded my seasonic, better fan, sleeving, sized the cables and removed a couple that I didn't need. Because they are not modular the manufacturers wire for all they can manage.

good luck!

I'm running my I3-2105 on an Antec ISK-300 with the 65w PSU.

Granted I'm using the on board GPU, Mini-ITX, Crucial C300 64gb, 2.5" 500GB, and slim DVDRW drive.

Haven't had a single hiccup yet. But I don't push it to 100% all the time, from time to time with some smaller handbrake encodes, but not all the time.

I would almost think you could get by with the PicoPSU 120w or even 80w.
