MIMO was meh....

I setup a Netgear RangeMax? WPN824 Wireless Router for someone today.

Previously they had a POS netgear 614 and unfortunately it wasn't cutting it. The WAN link came inside in the basement, basically surrounded by endless rows of copper pipes.

Basically I was able ato get a signal tw ostories up with the original router but the signal quality was atrocious and the farthest pc was able to conenct to the wireless network but couldn't retrieve and IP.

With the rangemax, the signal quality went up to 20% upstairs using a rangemax nic, but it was still iffy as hell.


Basically, I realize how bad of an enviroment this was, but still, I was expecting more.


And of course, wired> *.*

P.S. For those of you who don't know the Netgear's antenna's are part of the orinted circuit board and have little LEDs that light up in sequence in the middle blue circle...cheesy but still neat

i always thought MIMO only works good if u have quite a few wireless clients with tons of non-internet traffic (like a switch that's wireless vs a hub that's wireless)

maybe...hoenstly I heard that it was good at both dealing with a lot of electrical interference (2.4ghz phones) and topological interference
