Mime Defies Gravity

Last week, the wife and I were enjoying a holiday in New Orleans, and were walking down Royal Street, almost across from The Court of Two Sisters, when I spotted this amazing mime.

He had both feet on the inclined ladder, and was perfectly motionless. He had a 2x4 balanced on his shoulder to act as a counterweight. I watched for almost 5 minutes and he never moved a muscle - or even twitched his face. Folks were walking around him taking pictures, but he would not move. I did see him breathing.

I had seen him a few years earlier with a different act. The shot was with a Canon EOS 5D and the EF 50mm f/1.4 lens.

And, yes, . . . the base of the ladder was wider than the side rails, but only about 7 inches, and it was cut to provide a flat contact with the pavement.

It's a piece of wood on his shoulder, and look at the base of the ladder, it's a TRICK.......

Of course it's a trick, but it's still pretty cool.

Balancing on a small wooden "box" with your feet on different rungs of the ladder and not moving at all for a very long time except to breathe is pretty cool in a way, yes. It's not an Olympic sport by any means, but I doubt most of us could do it for even a couple of minutes.
