I think this is a better thing than some might, he will at least know how to deal with the new money rather than people who just blow it after they win.

He gets $1M/yr for life!
geez.. luck of some people

How's this work? He may a million per year now, but won't necessarily when he retires. Second, a million dollar jackpot isn't that much, Uncle Sam and NY are going to take ~60% of that before all is said and done.

Edit - NM, read the article more closely, didn't realize it was a 1M/year lottery. My bad.

would suck if he gets in a tragic accident and is in a coma. i would assume his family could still collect the 1 million / yr as long as he is still alive.

Surely, everyone that wins the lottery must follow in the footsteps of this man:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...roll-set-return-old-job-blowing-9-7m-win.html
He became the self-proclaimed king of the chavs after turning up to collect his £9.7million lottery win wearing an electronic offender's tag.

But eight years on, having blown all that money, Michael Carroll is practising for a return to his old job as a binman.

The 26-year-old, who squandered his multi-million fortune on drugs, gambling and thousands of prostitutes, has since February claimed £42 a week in jobseeker's allowance.

I always think it's funny to see stuff like this. Given enough time, everything will happen at least once.

Does it disturb anyone else that a "banker" is playing the lotto? I hope he's not an investment banker.

although I guess you could argue that gambling worked in his favor

Good for him. Does that mean his mom should get 1/6 of 1million per year?
