I'm down two 280x's until I can figure out why the machine they are in just keeps dying. Haven't really had time to try anything to fix it, been really busy.

Bummer! Hopefully it's something easy to fix.
Two things happened before it started acting up. I swapped in some known good memory sticks, and Windows did an update. The Event Viewer doesn't show anything unusual. So I have to haul it onto the workbench and run Memtest on it, if that shows good I guess I might just reinstall Windows. I wish Linux had proper support for these old AMD cards.

Sweet, that's my best single day so far! :D

The day is fast coming when I have to unplug my dual Xeon/dual Quadro 4000 machine and get rid of it. But I'm trying to put it off as long as possible. The Quadro cards suck for pretty much everything, but the 24 Xeon cores are bunkering for the next Formula sprint so I have to keep it online at least that long. I haven't measured the power draw from the wall, but reviews/ratings say 280+ watts combined for the GPUs and 260 watts combined for the CPUs, so even though it's using power at work, I have to stop rationalizing and just make it go away... ;)

In the meantime, I had an old engineering laptop turned in last night with a i7-4810MQ CPU and AMD Radeon HD 8790M. It was a pretty decent machine when it was new five years ago. Not so much now, especially for a software engineer... That HD 8790M does support double precision, though, so I fired up MilkyWay on it just to see how it does. It averages around 750 seconds per task running one at a time, and around 1450 seconds running two at a time. That comes out to about 26-30K points per day, so a bit less than what the Quadro 4000s are doing, and I won't bother letting it continue to run very long. It draws quite a lot of power considering that it's an old laptop (UPS meter says it's pulling close to 100 watts while only using the GPU and the screen with no CPU load).

I never looked, but it appears as if all AMD's mobile chips have had their DP performance seriously neutered. Too bad!

I honestly would have been surprised if it performed well being an old mobile GPU, but it was worth a try. ;)

I would have shown the race track for the top 4 positions as well, but Crashtech is too far ahead to fit on screen :p

I'm posting morning stats, but Free-DC is showing different than normal.. Normally by morning 'today's total' is all 0's and Yesterday's total is populated. Today it's all showing in the today's total column. It's probably accurate, but just fair warning the stats for today/tomorrow may be slightly screwey.

I guess I don't really need the twin 280x's that are MIA right now? I have a new motherboard coming, the one that was failing couldn't pass Memtest with more than a single 4GB stick.

Who needs more than a 4GB stick for some Milky? ;)

Ice-man, thanks for the stats, and the cool new methods of presenting them. :)

Oh, well I guess I didn't give the rest of the story. After I got it to pass with the one stick, I booted Windows and it still wanted to crash. At that point I was done screwing with it, it may have been corrupted files, but the time to be able to return the board for credit was running out. A better one will arrive tomorrow if UPS can be believed!

I could put my GTX 1060 and 750ti on MilkyWay, but it would be cruel and unusual punishment to do that to the cards since they REALLY don't do well in MilkyWay.

Thanks for the stats Icecold :).

Suddenly my HD 7870XT's has found it's feet!

View attachment 32589

I've added some extra firepower to keep the 3 stooges behind me from gaining any ground.
Hopefully it won't inspire them to do the same ;)
Nothing more left here, unless I switched my CPUs to MW, but I hardly think that'd be worth it.
I wonder what I might get from them?........ [edit] Looking at my MW benchmark thread , my i7 was about 80x slower than my HD 7870XT on the old MW v1.42 app! lol So if the RAC for that GPU is right (~222k/day atm) then my i7 could add ~2.8k/day for an extra 100w (IIRC), lol, not worth it.

The user name column is static on my spreadsheet. Basically, each day I just sort free-dc by 'last 28 days' to get everybody that's active, throw it in a spreadsheet, get it down to just the user name and total Milkyway points, and then put it back in my main spreadsheet to calculate the total from when we started and compared to yesterday's stats. If somebody's user name changed enough to make it no longer line up alphabetically I would have noticed, but I hadn't thought of people changing user names. I'll pull a new list of user names from Free DC tomorrow when I do the stats. It looks like it is updated on Free-DC so it was just my spreadsheet that was behind(but only in the user name column)
