In my quest for better health, aside from working out a lot, and trying to eat better and less quantity, I've taken up some milk drinking in the last week or so ...

*frumph* here, *frumph* there ...

I don't think I'm lactose intollerant, or am I?

How much milk to you drink? What kind?

I killed 1/2 gallon in about 2-3 days ... 1% ...

EDIT: changed title, figured "Milk Makes Me Fart" would require a lock or something ...

EDIT 2: Changed back for StinkyMeat

If you have increased your intake of dairy products at a pretty good rate, you'll get the gas. Basically the enzimes that are needed to break down the lactose aren't there in high enough quantity to handle your increase of dairy. You body isn't used to that amount. Good news is, your body should start churning out more the enzimes to deal with the increase. If I were you, I'd scale back some what on the dairy intake then up it slowly.

Heavy milk drinker stopped drinking for about 5 months. When I got back into it I was very gassy, but never made the connection.

Until now...

How old are you? Many people start losing part of their lactose intolerance in late adolescence/early adulthood.

I think you have that backwards.

Before you are an adult it is easier to tolerate milk, but as you become an adult you become more and more lactose intolerant. This is perfectly normal, being lactose intolerant.

At most I'll drink a glass a day of 1%, but it's tempered with a very healthy dose of Nesquick and Carnation malt. Yumm...

Both of my kids are lactose intolerant, or are they?

If they drink straight milk, they get the side effects of LI. If there is a couple of spoonfuls of Nestle's Quik mixed in, they don't.

You figure it out.

I drink lots of milk. I can kill a gallon in 2 days by myself easy. (Not everyday though) Is that bad? I'm not really that gassy, but I have been drinking a lot like this my entire life. I guess it's cuz I don't like soft drinks that much. Also drink a lot of OJ and other fruit juices.

HA! You guys are jokes. I easily kill a gallon of whole milk in a day. And I'm sure I could do more but I'm not home long enough. I've always wanted to try to kill a gallon in an hour to see if i'd really throw up. I doubt this is true...i suppose it'd be fun to try.

I think I could do it. I love milk and have a very high lactose tolerance. Yay me!

I drink a half-gallon every 2-3 days. But I need to take lactase pills whenever I drink milk (or certain other dairy products) since I do have lactose intolerance.

I'm lactose intolerant. If I drank one cup of milk I'd have diarrhea, cramps, and gas. No milk for me.
