All sugar is not the same. One would know that from studying biology/chem.

Maybe it's because I grew up in the south, but we always called regular milk "sweet milk"

Lactaid, a lactose-free brand of milk, is sweet, though, because enzyme (lactase) added converts lactose -> glucose and galactose (two other types of sugar).

Those with lactose intolerance cannot produce sufficient lactase to digest lactose, which leads to indigestion and other nasty GI side effects.

to me, skim milk tastes a bit sweet and the mouthfeel is very watery. used to 2%.

It used to be called sweet milk to differentiate between so called sweet milk, aka regular milk, and sour milk or buttermilk.

My grandma was from Tennessee, she called buttermilk, just 'milk'. Anything else was 'sweet milk'

Yeah yeah yeah. I was going the simpleton route.

Could have stated that sucrose (table sugar) is a disaccharide consisting of two saccharides, glucose and fructose.
Lactose (milk sugar) is also a disaccharide, but consists of galactose and glucose. Galactose is not as sweet as either glucose or fructose.

Figured that might bet too much. :)
