How'd you get the baseball shot?

Basically, you focus on the pitcher and then manually back the focus towards home. Look at the grass and you can see the focal plane.

Then it's all about timing and getting a shot with the ball in the focal plane.

Very simply explained, very difficult to master, and capture.

Beautifully done!

Congrats on those high-profile leaders, they're good photos as well.

The complaint I've heard about Getty from sports shooters I've worked with is that their day rates are very low and they hold all copyright on the images.

With the "old school" system, a front page on high profile places like the LA Times and ESPN and others would have got you a pretty healthy paycheck, but with Getty, you got your $250 day rate and unlikely anything else.

What is your experience with it so far?

PS, what lens are you using? That's a 400mm f/2.8 isn't it? Buttery smooth.

While it's true that getting the high profile places would bank more money, that's just not how it works anymore, unless you get contracted directly from ESPN, LA Times, etc.

Getty's day rate is more than what you said above and they more than likely have contracts with some of the major news sites, but I still get a cut of it. We'll see on the 20th when my statement comes out for August.

And yeah, it's a 400 2.8 and that lens pretty much never comes off my camera body. 🙂
