I think that bike ride is either going to be pretty long or pretty rough.

According to my Bell totalfit computer - my 23.4 mile mostly flat ride on Sunday was 1363 calories burned. Simple division yields approximately 56 calories/mile.......so to hit 1200 I would say ride about 21.5 miles.

Of course I have no idea how accurate this device is as far as keeping track of calories, but I do know I have it correctly calibrated for distance (we have a 2-mile long paved trail that I ride on and use to check the accuracy of the odometer).

BTW, the Bell totalfit is a neat little gizmo - It snaps onto the bike to function as an odometer/speedometer/tripmeter/calorie burned meter, and can also be removed from the bike and changed into pedometer mode for walking/running.

Edited to change recommendation to 1200 from 1000 (it helps to read the OP clearly....D'OH!!!!)

I was going to say ~25 miles based on what the Lifecycle at the gym is telling me. I know it's not perfect, but it's the best I can offer.

As others have said, it varies according to terrain and your average speed. If you really want to keep track, invest in a heart rate monitor that also does calories.

The Polar M-series are specifically made for people who are looking to gain general fitness and lose weight.
