ESPN in their ever vigilant quest to cross-promote other programming on their family of networks had USA Women's soccer player Cat Whitehill call in during the game to talk about ESPN showing the Women's World Cup. But why during a college football game between Alabama and Arkansas? Well, Whitehill was born in Birmingham, AL. But, she went to school at North Carolina. OK, then....so what's the connection? Well, through further on-air discussion while the game is going on, we learn that she roots for Alabama...when they're not playing Auburn, Georgia, or Florida...she had family members go to those three schools.

Good try ESPN. Way to interrupt a great football game, TWICE, with this nonsense.

I hate all that crap that stations/networks inject into a game. That's why I always look forward to the "small" games that don't get picked up by a national network. There is a regional company that handles the broadcast - it used to be Jefferson Pilot, but I think they changed names last year. Their broadcasts don't have all the fancy graphics and whatnot, but who needs all that crap anyway? They just call the game as they see it, and they even sometimes show some of the halftime show. It's everything I want in a football broadcast, and nothing more.

It's Lincoln Financial Sports now. They're alright in the sense that you don't have to put up with the cross-promotion crap but their video quality is horrible and the announcers aren't all that great...often getting player's names wrong left and right. Not that Mike Patrick was great in the Alabama/Arkansas game as every Alabama running back was named 'Grant' and he seemed to be sleep-walking through most of the broadcast.

Lol, yeah that was annoying as hell. Usually what I do is watch on TV muted and listen to it on the radio. Freaking awesome game though, too bad I didn't have any tickets. Thanks alot Dr. Whitt. :|

I and everybody else I know detest Lincoln Financial. I have been considering informing the company I would never consider purchasing their offering because of how crappy their college sports presentations are. Those cameras look like total shit. I can ignore the announcers but in this day they should at least have decent cameras if not high definition. I groaned when I saw that UF's game next week is picked up by them. I hoped the national championship would help elevate us to the big networks all season.

Heh, I don't think CBS or ESPN want to pay to watch UF slaughter an awful Ole Miss team. They'll lose the audience before the end of the 1st quarter. USC at LSU, UK at Arkansas and UGA at Bama are much more compelling match-ups.

Just be happy that the UF/Lil Sis game hasn't been relegated to PPV. :)

it's not like it took away from anything. the commentators weren't providing anything worthwhile during those dull parts of the game.

It is mostly the disingenuous aspect of the appearance that bugged me. They brought her on under the pretense that she was a Bama fan when by all respects, if you didn't attend the school and you root for three other schools over that school, then you aren't a fan of that school.

i really appreciate Madden as much as he's a dumbass. He doesnt second guess every f'n play/ play call made by the players / coaches.
you know the jackasses, im talking about...Paul McGuire, Dan Dierdorf...there is a reason why youre in that booth up there and not on the field making those decisions, dipshit.
god it bugs me to no end to listen to McGuire, especially. I cannot stand that idiot.
just call the game as it happens, we dont need your opinion on what Joe Gibbs SHOULD HAVE done. He's in the HoF, you arent. Get over yourself.

Plus, I was watching the USC - Nebraska game. Player injured on the field. They mention the player's name in passing and begin talking about the heisman trophy. How about you give us some insight into the injured player, where he's from...etc etc. Who gives a shit about an individual award 2 weeks into the season? its ridiculous to even speculate.

RANT OFF.
