Mikobu III M6.2 Smart Card Reader

I've recently purchased a Mikobu III m6.2, and am on XP, since I am on a laptop, there are no serial ports in which to connect the mikobu to. I purchased a usb converter and am having problems with having my system recognize it, let alone the program in which to access it in the first place. Does anyone know of any good drivers, besides the USB drivers on the mikobu site that can help recognize my reader? Thnx
