I bought this book a few months ago for $40.. (I'm cooler cause' I paid more)

It is written pretty well - though it is very easy reading for anyone that knows anything about hardware. If you don't know anything about hardware, this will definately be the book to start.

It's fairly entertaining too - he like's to use the word 'spank'.. He's not too bad of a Microsoft junkie, either, considering it IS Microsoft Press. The author pretty much sounds like a nerd trying to be cool - but he knows his stuff.

This is definately a great deal at $20 because other A+ books are more than twice that.

I guess I never noticed, They just had it on a big endcap, saying %20 off so I assumed it was some sort of a sale. Kinda off topic, but does anyone remember where to get those vouchers from? I searched, but didn't find the thread.
Thanks

You know what, I applied for 2 different jobs and they both require an A+ certificate. That suck!!!

Here are the 2 books that I bought to study for the A+ exams.

A+ Certification All-In-One Exam Guide, 4th Edition
ISBN: 0072222743; 4th edition (March 15, 2002)

A+ Adaptive Exams
ISBN: 1584500654; Bk&Cd-Rom edition (March 18, 2002)

Fiveooh, you can get them at totalsem.com, it is part of the publisher of the book.

However, you need to buy 2. One for the core hardware exam and one for the Operating System exam. The vouchers are $117 a piece but if you pay directly its $139 each.

I'm taking mines tomorrow. I took a look at the practice tests.com and my impressions are that the questions are ANAL! I doubt some of the questions will appear on the exam. I've taken all the exams that came with the book and nearly got a perfect score on all the tests.

I'll be taking the 2 exams tomorrow so I'll let you know how it goes.

Vinnyracer, how is the 2nd book you got?

I bought a thick A+ review book published by McGraw-Hill a couple of years ago. I started to read it and was almost immediately turned off by the author's injection of opinion as fact. Is Meyers' book full of opinion or fact???

The book is pretty good. He tries to make some things funny. I found it quite easy to read. If you are dedicated, you could finish it easily in a week.

Note that his people that read his Netowrk+ book thought it was a joke and reviewers wrote how they failed the Network+ exam. There have not been any bad reviews with his A+ book.

I just got back from the exams. The max time was 30 mins for each exam. I took a little under 10 mins for each exam. Myers covered pretty well on the OS part. If you trouble-shoot os problems, the the os exam is a breeze. On the other hand, the hardware part had some questions myers did not address but if you know your stuff, you could wing some of the stuff not covered in the book.

A+ certified, up next MCSE XP Pro, then CCNA

Don't know yet, just got the book yesterday.

Pothead, what book did you use to study for the A+ exams. Also, how much did you pay for both the test.

Well, normally if you pay directly to Provue or whatever those 2 companies are called, it is $139 for each, so you have to take the OS and the hardware exam.

I bought a voucher, $117, from totalsem.com and thought it covered 2 exams...my bad....haha...so I just used my voucher for one exam and paid 139 for the other one since it takes totalsem.com a full business day to send you the voucher code via email.

Buying from totalsem will save you $44 total.

I used the Mike Myers A+ hard cover edition, not the passport. I think it is the same book you have.

Booky

I don't think you need the 2nd book though. I did perfectly fine. BTW, those questions on practicetest.com are actually anal after taking the exam. The guys there must pick apart each idea and ask as many questions as possible. I guess if you want to be sure, then take those tests.

20-30 Questions for each exam (depending on how many hard ?'s you get right), 30 mins time limit on each exam

Meyers is THE book when it comes to A+. Inputs humor, although dry at times, and lays things out in such a way that it clicks, or at least for me. His N+ are good, but lack a lot of the detail for DSL and the like, but this is mainly due to the fact that they added to the test after the book was published, there's an updated version slated for release in 2-3 months. I'm working on MCSE XP now, since support for 200adv serv is rumored to go buh-bye sometime in march. As soon as they release the service pack, i'll start looking for a meyers version.

As far as this deal goes, i'd suggest getting the all in one version, not just the passport as it's meant more for a quick referesher/study. It's a great resource, irregardless of testing. And worth the $40.
