Hi, my company is migrating from a setup up various Novell 3.1 and 4.1 serves along with NT 4.0 servers to a Win2K Server setup with active directory. I've read various book on win2k server and active directory, I have a fair share of hands on experience with win2K server but not really any hands on experience with active directory. Can anybody give me any pointers or things I/we need to look out for when migrating these servers over? Any links or peresonal experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Remember that AD is a flat directory, not tiered like containers are in Novell. You're going to need a tool to migrate your directory services over smoothly; how many users are in your installation? Will the clients be 2000 as well? You should try and make a native mode switch ASAP so you can do stuff like refuse non-2000 session keys and force Kerberos V5 authentication across the network. I would recommend setting up individual users with domain admin access rather than using a generic Administrator account. Hmm, what else. Oh yeah, get rid of NETBIOS while you're at it and switch to SMB/CIFS over TCP. Use this migration as the excuse to do any clean up and tightening down that you want :)

Thanks for the suggestions. We have around 200-225 users on site. All clients are 2000 professional already besides 20-25 win95 stations. Any more tips would be well appreciated. Don't want to screw this one up :). Any good links or books? Thanks a million.
