I'm still a little confused on the process. So I get the cable and tool from microsoft, register the serial numbers and then do the migration? Once that's done my live profile and I "assume" game saves are moved so the new elite behaves just like the old one.

Then there is something about how I have to re-download anything I purchased? So I need to write down everything I've bought and then download again? Any easy way to do this?

You can go into your download manager and it will show you everything under your gamertag that you've purchased and downloaded. Edit: And re-download them from that screen too.

You can do this with the Zune, too. Damned handy.

Thanks, there's also something about transfering all your licenses here:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/supp...x360/licensemigration/

"Got a new Xbox 360® console? Great. But maybe you downloaded games or other content from Xbox LIVE® Marketplace onto an older Xbox 360 console, and now you want all that content on your new system. Well, now there's a way to do it.

With the license transfer tool, you can transfer the licenses of all your previously downloaded content from your old console to the new one."

The licensing is the only gotcha involved. The tool will migrate virtually everything you have over, so you won't have to re-download any games. But the XBLA games will only be playable while you are signed online until you go use that licensing tool on the XBox site. But it's very easy and very fast.

the HDD kit they send you will do all the owkr for you. When it is done it is like they copied everything from your old drive to the new drive. I never had to register anything for the stuff I bought/downloaded.
