migrating from nt4 and exchange 5.5 to 2000/exchange 2003

Hi all I have a nt4 box with like 15 accounts on it, and some exchange 5.5 running on it. i want to move to a new server running 2000 server and exchange 2003. Anyone have any links to really good how to's? Most seem to be oriented toward much more complex setups than mine. I've been playing with the active directory migration tool and looking at the microsoft docs and I can't figure out how to use it. Does the 2000 server need t log into the nt4 domain to get started or does it need to start its own active directory then copy the data for example?
 
with only 15 accounts, it might just be as easy, and "cleaner" to just create a new domain and new accounts.
 
I'd certainly consider doing that but I need to import the calendaring and contact information over from the old exchange server as well so I'm not sure its an option.
 
I'd have to agree with Brazen on this one.
In terms of your Mailboxes, what I have done in the past is when ready to switch over close/disable smtp/pop3/imap (whatever you're using) ports on the firewall so no more external email can hit your Exchange 5.5 box. Then create .pst backups of each individual mailbox. Take Exchange 5.5 down, turn up the new exchange 2003, setup everyone's mailbox and import the data from the .pst files. You will be good to go after that.

Is that where their exchange also stores their contact and calendaring information?
