Well Steam has been rolling out way to many games for SUMMER. I saw this yesterday and grabbed it as M&M III is an all time favorite.

its old school grid (1+), its turn based combat (1+) its following some of the standard M&M stuff (training, finding teachers to advance etc) (1+)

its a early access so its alpha and only 1/4 of game (-1) .. of course one could say I knew that going in.. Not sure they mentioned it was only 1/4 of the game, maybe

Graphics are good, but not great.. (wash)

Bugs- again its not a release game.. but I have a Game stopper less then 15 minutes in i cant get by, even with a RESTART with a fresh new team. I'm going to say (-1) because i cant even comment on game as I'm dead in the water.

When its done, its looking fairly good to me. But unless you are really needingr some RPG love, i might wait a bit. SO far I think it will be a good game. Anybody else have comments?

by the way BUGS!.. on way to lighthouse- 2nd guy.. game just stops.. like its waiting fro some input from me.. i can look at character sheets, swap items, drink potions, just cant cast spells or use weapons.. like the game stopped at the NPC's action. the screen is still animated, mosue is working, etc.. ugly bug!

Looks like Ubisoft saw how popular Legend of Grimrock was and decided to dive back into the grid-based genre.

I saw this last night and it has piqued my interest. I only played a couple of the old M&M games, and the only one I put any significant amount of time into was M&M3, but I have a lot of fond memories of that game. I'm not ready to plunk down $30 on an early alpha though without more information about it.

I came across this looking for classic RPGs, but I agree with not paying $30 for an alpha.

Looking pretty good so far. I've always been a big fan of the classic grid based dungeon romps and Grimrock was great. But I'm not a fan of early access games and kickstarters only because I don't consider being in the business of funding game development. Pre-ordering is risky enough and if I want to risk my money I'll do it something that provides ownership stake like stocks. I'll wait until it's a finished product. Let's hope it turns out to be a good one.

It's a really weird step to make it grid-based, because MaM has free movement since the 6th installment. I didn't like the visual style either, Might and Magic was always cutely kitschy in its own way, but MaM X looks way too much like a generic budget try at RPG. I know that I shouldn't judge it before I try it out, but for me as a fan of NWC and both HoMaM and MaM it feels really weird, like if someone was presenting me some stranger that I've never met or seen as my brother with whom I've spent 15 years of my life.

P.S.: Another issue are skills and classes - really a barbarian cannot handle a sword?? Oh come on.

Me too. Just waiting for someone to do a remake of the Beholder series.

yup still 4. Playing it (or trying to at least) right now. Alpha class selection is very limited.

Exactly what I thought, the first time I saw it.

But, if done right, it could be pretty damn good; imagine Grimrock with large outdoor areas, cities, and such.

Not interested in an alpha for a game like this though, but will probably pick it up when it's complete.

standards.. but more classes to come, As an Old M&M fan there is some fan service, but Im sure the hardcore might not see it. Some old jokes.. first quest they make fun of "no not rats, SPiders" or some such deal.

I like it, but really stress, its very much "IN PROGRESS" so dont even expect beta.. more like playable alpha.. some game breaking bugs.. you are paying to test for them.

I took a look at it but looked away as soon as I saw it was grid based. Not for me, I think grids should stick to t/sRPG combat and that's about it.

How does this compare to Might & Magic 6 overall?

It is grid based not free roaming like MM6 and most modern games are. So it makes movement feel unnatural at times but I got used to it quickly enough. All I can say is that I enjoyed MM6 and that I also enjoyed MM10. The overall feel of the game is quite similar except for the grid based movement.

I actually think MM10 is a bit of an underrated gem but that's just my own opinion.
