I accepted a job somewhere else (another city) and haven't started yet, currently been living w/my girlfriend of 5 yrs. until monday when the position begins. Should I take the job and live here or work for a short period in another city? That probably sounds ridiculous, but I have a hard time giving up something after I commit, that being the prior job offer. This job will give me better experience in my industry and better pay, living area is more expensive, but there are a lot of positives in this as well as the other job.

Better?

Well I got offered the job, but no med benefits until after 6 months, no 401k, only 16hr in NYC which I won't be able to live on. I don't think I should take it.

Is that 16 hours per week? I wouldn't take it.

its up to you. if I had a choice between simlar jobs one in a smaller city one in a big one I would take the one in the smaller city everytime.

I mean having a better place to live is worth alot

3 Bedroom NICE Condo 500 in GrandRapids Michigan
1 Bedroom Apartment in Pheonix (still cheap living) 550

I'd take the 10-20% paycut to have a better overall standard of living

Not many employers look all that hard at location. They'll pay more attention to what company you worked for and what experience you gained from it.

From what I gather (used to work with some architects and my uncle is one), networking is important so unless the non-NYC one is much better known, NYC might give you more chances to meet other architects.

probably would have to share right?

I think it's possible to find something under 1k month.

The other company I would be doing IT field work

I accepted the job @$18 an hr, getting it in writing. What should I say to the other company?

Why? You have to do what you think is best for you.

I personally couldn't stand living in a big city like NYC myself though and would have taken the other job. But I'm not you. :p
