Might be harder to return items this year

Is there a problem with the store collecting your information to do a return? I see nothing wrong there, as far as ive seen there are already some stores that do this too.

I haven't had any problems saying no when asked for any additional information when checking out or returning anything as long as I had the receipt.

Maybe retail stores want to drive their customers to online competitors? The only thing for retail stores was easier returns/inspection. Take away returns and there goes a main benefit.

Cliffs: Fuck this

I can't blame them. People abuse the living shit out of stores with liberal return policies.

Good. People are fucking retarded. When they buy stuff from best buy and return it, the store takes a loss by selling it as an open box item. The point of tracking this is so retards are banned from returning stuff because they bought everything on impulse.

Scan your drivers license for a return? Hah, yeah right.

When I was a cable guy, a doorman pulled that on me, saying that I had to photograph my drivers license to gain access to the building. I told him to suck my dick and tell the tenant she wouldn't be getting cable that day.

Screw that. I know a ton of Hispanics in my area that would insure cars and do all sorts of scams with your drivers license. Ask me how I know.

yes because the sales contract wasn't based on an exchange of information it was based on an exchange of money. Plus not everyone has a license so why shouldn't they be allowed to return shit?

Yup. They return because they found the item elsewhere for cheaper, just wanted to try it out or they didn't research it enough before the purchase. It ruins it for everyone else.

When CD burners first came out, I remember kids who were early adopters that would buy music CD's make a copy and then return them. Most stores shortly stopped accepting returns, or started keeping track of who was returning.

Like my mom used to say, people like this are the reason we can't have anything nice.

I can assure you they aren't taking a loss. Less margin isn't the same as a loss. Their product margins are in place to support their business procedures including return policies. If you can't afford returns then offer a no return no refund policy.

provided they aren't copying your id whats stopping you from providing 100% fake information to them...

Doesnt have to be a license, any government issued ID works just fine (i know.. ive done it)

And the sales contract wasnt based on giving you money back, it was based on you paying the store. Maybe stores should just stop accepting returns..

In some cases it may be. Have you read Victoria secrets return policy? I haven't.

I think return abuse is really excessive and not acceptable, and I don't mind the store requesting info for taking a return, BUT, I absolutely hate it when they use that information for marketing/mailing list purposes. Pisses me off.

Reminds me of trying to return something to Fry's in they bay area. They'd treat you like crap and do everything in their power to try and prevent you from returning the item.

In the example in the article - trying to return 5 pairs of underwear - those should automatically be non-returnable anyway.

Eh - I doubt a lot of stores will change their return policies... people like the no hassle return policy and will just shop elsewhere to meet their needs.

No, i haven't read the return policy. But I can pretty much assure you it does say in the return policy that you will be asked for ID and your information will be collected..

Returns, especially on clothing, should only be accepted if in the original package, unopened or with the sales tags still in place. Now for electronics items, you can't always tell if an item is good or bad until it is unpacked and tried out. So open items, with complete packaging should be returnable (for exchange or store credit) only.

There's a reason why Costco had to modify it's return policy, people abuse the hell out of them. I've worked retail and you can plainly tell that people use things and try to return them.

I never give them the correct details anyways. Even when I am buying stuff. Sometimes they ask for all this uneeded info to get me on a mailing or email spam list. I just give them crap. Probably 100 different variations of my email and phone number flying around attached to my name in these databases.
