original thread

I am pretty sure I can get hired in to this job. I am good at interviews, so I know I can win the recruiter over.

Here are the pro's for the job:
good pay after a while
car allowance
phone allowance
vacation pay
9-5, M-F (I have never had that before)
job security
nationwide company, so if I move I can just tranfer

con's:
first 8 weeks are in training on the other side of the state
during training the pay is very little ($400 a week)
no insurance for 6 months

Right now I average around $800 a week, have full benefits, and pretty much come and go as I please. I hate my job though, and I know I am underpaid. I am just debating on if the first couple months of struggle would be worth the switch.

What would you guys do if you were in my situation?

its basically a sure thing that I will end up making $60k my first year. I can survive on $400 a week, but the no insurance scares me. Things happen, and I would hate to be stuck with a huge hospital bill if something did happen.

meh...if all I was doing was becoming a butt pirate, I would just list you as a reference and I would be the VP of butt pirating tomorow.

This is doing inside sales, which is not an easy gig. I think the training is a good thing.

Pretty much...
If you can afford it, and you think you would like it better go for it. There is nothing more futile that asking "What if" down the road.

Agreed, if you think too much about something you will never do it. There comes a time when you close your eyes, jump and trust that you have made the right decision.

The butt pirating reference was a joke, Dude. I wish you the best, but you have to make the move.

this is true. When I quit my last job (managing Little Caesars) I had no clue if I could sell. Ended up doubling my income the first year. But this is a real job....I have never had a real job. I understand why they want to pay me nothing and withhold benefits (they have to make sure I will make the cut) but that doesnt make me feel any better about doing it.

:(

short term sacrifice for long term gain. you are young, odds that something serious will happen in the next 6 months that will require insurance are low. easy decision.

Holy smokes, Bud, you are just a youngun. You have your whole life ahead of you. You have the opportunity to make mistakes and then go on to make more.

I made my LAST major career change at the age of 50. Before that I made a major change at 43. :D

These changes were made with the full responsibility of a family to take care of. No, I don't have any special credentials or education, I'm just willing to take chances based on what I my abilities to be.

Go for it. You may just surprise yourself. :p

fixed...sorry about that

I really hate change, but I know this could be really good for me. I am going to beat the recruiter guy up about the bene's and pay. Maybe I can sell him on giving me more than the average joe.
