What YOUR PC will be used for. Gaming.

What YOUR budget is. $600-$700

What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. USA from newegg.

IF YOU have a brand preference. Intel and Nvidia. No Gigabyte (very bad experience every time I've used their products)

If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts. I'll be using my old eVGA GTX 670s in SLi. If the budget will not allow for both cards then a single will suffice.

IF YOU plan on overclocking. Minor overclocking - nothing extreme. Although my old 670s are both heavily overclocked.

What resolution. Most likely 1080p as I don't think a budget system will handle 1440p.

WHEN do you plan to build it? Three weeks but since we are this close to black Friday, I'll probably wait until then to buy the parts.

Do you need to purchase any software. Yes, Windows 7 64-bit.

I'm doing this from my phone a long ways from home so forgive me for any errors.

This build isn't for me but for a friend I work with. I know picking parts for a build over a month away is generally a bad idea but I'd like to have a base-line to work with so I know what to expect performance-wise. I have checked out the midrange guide but most of those are from different websites and I'd like to order from just one site all at the same time. If possible, I'd like to set this up for upgrading in the future.

I greatly appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

You can't install Win7 on Skylake without an optical drive, so Win10 saves ~$15 overall. Click the link at the top and the build will change, at any given time, to minimize your price on similar products.

Ken's is the better build without the un-necessary video card..

Thanks a lot. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I imagine that build will support the sli 670s.

As for Windows 10, wouldn't I be buying an optical drive anyways? This will be used for gaming so an optical drive would be necessary.

Yes, and that's basically the only reason to get a Z170 over an H170 for this build.

Not going to download everything off Steam? OK, then, hopefully, SLI-capable Z170s will get cheaper by the time you buy.

I'm trying to cover all the bases since there are still a lot of games that aren't available on Steam. Even though I have around 200 games on Steam myself, I also have a massive collection of physical copies of older games. Plus, an optical drive is handy for other things as well.

Since the OP mentioned some overclocking would be done, he would need a Z170 board and an unlocked chip, like the 6600K

Some additional information. He's primarily a console gamer that I've been converting over to the PC (I also play on consoles so please no flame-wars), but due to a recent injury, sitting at a desk would make life difficult for him. I'm designing this PC in mind to be connected to his TV and used with a controller via Steam's Big Picture mode. With that being said, peripherals are only going to be for booting and internet usage, so that's a total of $10 for both keyboard and mouse. If costs need to be cut, I don't think a SSD is necessary for Steam games (even though I use one I haven't noticed a drastic difference in load times).

Thanks again for all the contributions. I have all this saved in a wish list and am just waiting for his go-ahead to place the order. Though, as I stated previously, we may just wait a bit until Black Friday comes around (or Cyber Monday or whatever the hell these new holidays are called now) and see if we can't grab anything a lot cheaper.

Edit: For some reason, my signature doesn't appear when I post from my phone. Then again, I can't view the desktop site from my phone either, so that's probably why.
