Chevelle, on top of the number differences, the 2802 offers component switching along with full pre-outs, not just fronts, center and sub. I think that that is the biggest difference, which is also why I'm looking at the 2802, as opposed to the 1802.

I bought my entire setup from One Call and have nothing but great things to say about them. It has been about 3 years since I bought so I can't comment on what to buy.

However, I definitely agree to stay away from Sony receivers. They make great TVs, but not so good receivers. Denon, Onkyo are all great middle of the road vendors.

ok on the preouts, i understand why you'd need one for a powered sub, but would these be used on separate amps or something? where would you use this?

yeah, the pre-outs would be used to output the signal to an amplifier first, and then from there to your speaker......most people find a night and day difference with the same receiver, but having it amped. And it doesn't have to be separate amps (monoblocks), you can buy 5 channel amps.

You can pick up the 3802 (may be overkill for you, but it's a steal at this price) for $699 from 6ave. It is a great amp for the price. Otherwise, the 2802 would be my pick - but for the extra $200, the difference between the 2802 and 3802 is rather large, IIRC.

i'm on a fairly limited budget here, or i'd be all over the 3802. i'm probably going to look for the best price on an 1802, at this moment I can't really justify paying extra for features I might use way down the road.

Call 6ave. You should be able to get it for ~$320 IIRC.

I called last week, or the week before that, and they quoted me $350 + shipping.........if you're really looking into one, and want to save as much money as possible, PM me, as I know some people from HTF that are selling theirs. (warranty will carry over and everything........just depends on if you want a used one. One has only been used for 2 weeks!)

ok i'm gonna work on 6ave for the best price on a denon 1802, but what kind of cd-player should i get? a 5-disc changer would work fine. Is the Denon 270 worth the 100 more than other 5 disc changers? are digital outs that much better SQ than normal rca outs?

Best advice I can give is stay away from sony stuff. Very poor sound and poorly made, especially in the receiver category.

Sony's ES cd players on the other hand particularily the 555es and 777es are superb, as is the 5es receiver. But you really have to move to the ES line to approach the quality, power and sound of the denons, outlaw, yamaha.

ES good, all else sony, bad. This is from 15 years experience as a music/stereo lover.

I would not let the Sony grace my garbage can. Sony can make a PalmOS device, and a TV. They need to leave sound to the companies that can put out a decent product.

I paid $999 for my 520. I would not give it up.... I replaced an older H/K.

those are very nice prices, but i'm tryin to go for a little lower. I can get that 1802 for 370, might be able to get em lower, so at this moment that's what i'm gonna go with.
