It looks more like they're removing StarOffice 5.2 for download. Are they charging for 6.0 now? Since it's based on OpenOffice, might as well go and download OpenOffice instead

Where can you d/L 6.0? All I can find is this...
11. Q.
Will there be any free downloads of StarOffice 6.0 software through the Sun Web site?
A.
There will no longer be a free download of StarOffice on the Sun Web site, but those seeking a free office productivity suite can go to http://www.openoffice.org.

You can't download StarOffice 6.0. It's a commercial product only.

You can download OpenOffice 1.0, which is the open source version of StarOffice 6. Which is pretty much what FoolishMcNasty said.

By most accounts, OpenOffice 1.0 is *much* better than StarOffice 5.2 so this is not a big deal.

I *hated* StarOffice 5.2, but I use OpenOffice 1.0 every day (both under Linux and Windows XP). I think it is quite good and everything that most users need.

I am still using office97.

Thanks for all the tips . . . I will try these free programs . . . heck, I even got the free 30-day trial of OfficeXP from MS (no charge for shipping as posted in hot deals) . . . strangely, MS sent me TWO product keys (one label is pasted over the other but the original key is clearly visible under the top label marked "trial" ).
