MIDI problems

I'm using a Dell Dimension (I know, I know - to my credit I did not choose it of my own free will :p) and when I try to play MIDI files, I will often get notes that are slightly off when it comes to timing. It annoys me no end. -_- I created these MIDI files using Finale 2005. When I play them using Finale's software synth, they work fine, but using either direct hardware MIDI out or "MS GS Wavetable SW Synth" (whatever that is) causes the timing problem to occur. This happens even outside of the Finale program so I doubt that's the cause. Would getting a PCI sound card get rid of this problem?

The problem could be with the midi (joystick controller?) on the dell. I would suggest if its important enough to purchase a midi inteface (edirol is pretty good) and then visit

http://www.musicxp.net/ To tweak your system for music production. This should solve your problems. Hell you could try some of these tweaks to your system first and then see if that fixes it.
