I have a Yamaha PSR-225GM MIDI keyboard I would like to connect to my
WinXP desktop PC. My sound card is a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz which
includes a joystick port. I use Cakewalk Scorewriter (for actual
scoring) and MidiStudio (for bulk data backup/restore)

All I want to do is:
1. Backup the keyboard user memory (it gets erased when the power goes
out)
2. Record songs on the KB to MIDI scores
3. Transfer downloaded MIDI songs to the KB for playback
Tell me if these cannot be done.

I can buy the joystick to MIDI cable for $25 or a M-Audio Midisport
Uno* USB adapter for $40 (including built-in cables). The price
difference does not matter to me. Which of these products is
preferrable?

thanks,
Sathyan

I don't think there's a noticable difference between gameport connection & USB for MIDI device. For me, I'm using all USB ports already (camera, mouse, gamepad & printer) so I hook my MIDI keyboard to the gameport.
