Mid range vid card

What is a good mid range ($140ish) vid card? I don't game THAT much, but the games i do play are pretty graphically intensive (FEAR, Doom 3, Serious sam).

I'm sure most of the replies will be split between the x800 GTO and the n6800 GT, but I would like to know why, esp since i have no experience OCing vid cards. I hear the the ati OCs better, but the VGA charts on Tom's Hardware lead me to believe nvidia performs better overall.

Oh yeah, PCI-e, not AGP.
