So i am considering getting this card (6600 gt) for my comp, I needed a budget card that would run all my games hls css d3 etc. I dont want to spend much more than $150 but if there is a better card I should be looking at in my price range, please tell me.
Heres the card im considering:
Nvidia 6600gt Gigabyte from Newegg

Thanks guys!

Those cards are a bit above my price point. Anything better than the 6600gt for the price? I know I can get good fps with it in d3 hl3 and others with settings at fairly high, so thats why im considering it, but are there any others out there that would basically give more bang for the buck?

for under 150, yeah the 6600GT is prolly your best bet, unless you can find a good deal on the aforementioned GPUs.

6600GT is the best under 150, for 150-200 x800GTO2 and 6800GS are the best. I'd save up an extra 50 and go for those (GTO2 if you're willing to mod the card, 6800GS if you're happy to run stock).

QFT, but if you're a going to stick with $150 or less budget, here another option you might want to consider:

here's a review for that card, it's slighty faster than 6600gt for not much more.

I thought the 6800xt did worse than a 6600GT.

It might be a good idea if you can get it to unlock, but I heard it's poor at that.

if remember correctly, Trunkks got his 6800xt AGP(nv40 core) to unlock with rivatuner, but i doubt the PCI-E 6800xt will

the one from newegg and the one from the review is far different. the one in the review is clocked at 425/1000, where the one in newegg is 325/600...huge difference. the xt from newegg will prolly be slower than the 6600gt

and the 6600GT should overclock a bit too so it's a pretty good deal. but I would look at the ATI X1600XT's that are out.. they're pretty good deals and are getting decent speeds.

The Sapphire X1600XT is around $165 on Newegg and is clocked 590/1380 out of the box.. I'd say that would kick the 6600GT's butt, but you'll have to check at some reviews on the net for more.

Clock speeds don't mean anything anymore... how about performance scores?

True, clock speeds don't always mean alot, but as I expected, it would be faster than the 6600GT, if not by alot. At least it's around a similar price point. Depends really on if you like ATI or Nvidia more right now.

Thanx for the link to a review.

Odd, I'm looking at the DODS performance and it's doing better.

For me, that would be a selling point because I play DODS more... so yeah.

Norm

Well, if you're running AA, the DODS results are better with the X1600XT.. only with No AA is the 6600GT faster.

Overall it's better with AA than the 6600GT, either faster on all the games results in the Anandtech review or on par (minus the DODS No AA results).

So it's a question if you like Nvidia or ATI and better AA. Whatever the choice, both are good cards.

The gto is a good deal faster than a 6600gt, but I havent seen any for $150 yet. But if you can buy it for around $170-180 then it's worth the price difference.

Your best bet would be the X800GTO. You can find the PCI-E version for under $200, and it is close to the performance of a 6800GS (If you unlock the 4 disabled pipelines and overclock it, it is way better than a 6800GS).

You have not seen one for $150? Check this:
X800 GTO at Newegg
What do you all think of the stats on this card? Is it better than the card I linked to in my first post?

Thanks
Dan

I mean, for the card i posted above, it seems that for 130 its the same price point yet has 4 more pipelines, or is this just a crappy version of the x800gto. (sorry if I sound like a noob, I do not usually look in detail at gpu's.

$129 :Q

That's either a typo or an insanely low price on a gto. I doubt it will OC much because it lacks an external power connector, and forget about unlocking pipes, but for that price the card simply has no competition.
