Eh, keep old vehicle as primary and I don't care about gas so much. Get rid of current vehicle, and get a new primary vehicle ... gas matters.

Buying another truck or SUV turned convertible is not a midlife crisis car... that is a becoming even more of a redneck car.

Cayman/Boxster, Vette, Elise, M3/Z4, old muscle car etc.

Wait, wait, hold on a minute, what the fudge is a Maxeratti?

I think you should go with a prius... Just want to throw that out there in case all the reasonable suggestions have already been suggested.

Those four things disqualify anything you buy as a proper midlife crisis car. The whole point is to splurge, and have fun.

You and I are the same age, could be damn near to the day. That said, I just got an M4. Granted, different strokes for different folks, but ultimately, what do YOU want? Other than what you don't want, which really doesn't narrow anything down, it's no real indication of what you DO want.

2 door? 4 door? Drop top? Four banger or V8? Luxury, muscle, sports? Modern or classic? There are so many ways you can go.

I think Vette is more cliche than Mustang anyway. 🙂

The Vette is totally cliche. However, given that, the new Z06 is pretty effing awesome.

How about a 5-speed, 1.0 Fiesta? It's supposed to be fun, and it has good fuel economy and decent interior volume. Might scratch the BMW itch while satisfying the Honda requirements. Plus you can get it new for what you'd pay for the BMW used.

An RV.

Or a 300ZX, Celica, or Integra.

Talking out of my behind, but hey, perhaps something might pique your interest.

944 Turbo or S2, or 968 if you can find a good coupe for reasonable money.
If you buy a nice one you might even make money on the thing in a few years.
986/996 crap motors unless someone spent a fortune, the TT's are much better buy
but you might die if you aren't used to such. 987/997 better depending on year but getting spendy, and still kinda bland in that special way only Germans seem to be able to manage. Can't get much more midlife crisis-ey for the money than a Porsche.
Or a vette.

At your age maybe think on what were iconic or lusted after cars when you were young and broke and go from there. Often times the reality of them is less entertaining than the memory though so beware. You'd be surprised the exotic-ish stuff is relatively cheap these days if it's not in the markets favors.

For my mid-life crysis, I will probably go with motocycle. Cheap, fun, excellent gas mileage, and isn't it like almost every kid's dream to ride a real bike?

Hehe, went to the Twin Cities Auto Show this weekend and was starting to think about what mid-life-crisismobile I might want after I kick the kids out... I mean the kids move out of their own accord in a few years. I could see myself in a CTS-V. The MB SL is helluva looker though.

But with the constraints the OP put on it, it doesn't sound like a mid-life crisis vehicle at all. In fact I'm not sure what he's looking for. A sweet-ass grocery getter?
