I got a 2 for 1 deal earlier at a chicken fingers place and need to reheat one of them. Is it safe to microwave styrofoam?

No it isn't. Anyplace where the food is touching the styrofoam can melt.

It's fun to put pins in the foam a few mm apart and nuke it. It will arc real nice.

I microwave styrofoam dishes/cups/boxes all the time and just watch them and if they start to melt/buckle I turn off the microwave. Most of the time the food or liquid gets warm enough to eat or drink.

1. It's not Styrofoam. For the most part, Styrofoam is blue and it's used to insulate a building.
2. I wouldn't do it. You will heat is to its softening temperature. Use a glass container.

Only if you want the food to taste nasty. I remember toasting some frozen waffles years ago and putting them on a styrofoam plate, it added a not so nice flavor to them.

Yes, it's safe to microwave the foam containers that the food is served in. However, some foods have hot spots that are hot enough to melt the styrofoam, especially foods with oil/grease on them. Thus, you could end up with a mess, depending on the food.

Ramen noodles are often sold in those styrofoam cups - you can heat them to boiling with no harm to the styrofoam.

That's true, sort of. Styrofoam is Dow's trademarked name for the (you're right, blue) polystyrene insulation used in construction. However, you're wrong that it still isn't "styrofoam" - the word styrofoam has become the generic term for just about any polystyrene products such as cups, plates, etc. See "kleenex" for further details.
