Microwave technique. 1 minute or 60 seconds?

Any value from 0 to 99 seconds I type in with two digits. I used to type 1-0-0, but realized the inefficiency many years ago, thus I did away with it.

6-0 start

Because less time spent pressing buttons on a microwave means more time staring at my microwave waiting for the food to be hot.

Two minutes at 50% power is more uniform.

I am confused, why is 2 minutes at 50% "more uniform" then 1 minute at full power. And what does it mean to be "more uniform" anyways? 😕

The "microwaves" heat the outer surface of the food much faster than the inner matter. Cooking longer with less power allows time for the heat to transfer more evenly throughout the food. Thus you don't get the smoking hot exterior with the ice cold nugget inside.

Mine has a pizza button that is 30 seconds. I use the pizza button for everything so if I need 1 minute I use the pizza button twice.

Man, I wish I had pizzas that took 30 seconds to cook.

I am pretty sure that the pizza button is supposed to be reprogrammed to an accurate cook time 😀

We have 2 microwaves. One is old and I put in 6-0-start, the other has buttons for 1-5 minutes and 30 sec, so I use those. For a min and a half, I hit the 1 minute button and the 30 second button.

Edit: The older one is weaker as well, so I usually have to give stuff more time for it to cook properly. (Heated up some egg rolls the other day, outside was perfect, inside was still cold. 🙁)
