Microwave only turns on when door is opened

There's no timer going on my microwave, but when you open the door it turns on, when you close the door the light goes off and the microwave shuts off. Is this dangerous?
edit: What I should have asked was, should I cut the power going into the microwave just in case something else goes wrong with it?

update: I put a bowl of water in it and went in the other room. When I came back the water temperature did not change. I conclude that the microwave's generator is not on when the door is open, rather just the light and fans are. Thanks to those who came up with this idea of leaving water in it.

I just realized, this microwave is broken then. You can't cook anything in it unless it's left open. Imagine not having a microwave oven for a while, that'll suck.

Well it's built into the wall, don't you need to have an electrician reconnect all the wires to it behind the wall. It's built into the house.

That is not good. Microwaves are non ionizing; but they are known to cause cataracts and tissue heating at high doses. A microwave of recent vintage is putting out several hundred watts. Don't mess around unless you don't much fancy your eyes.

At this point, that's the least of your problems.

I once had a refridgerator whose light only turned on when the door was closed . . . I'm sure of it!

I just hate it when common kitchen appliances create existential teasers. 🙁

sounds like brain damage has already set in

No problem at all.

Stick your head in there for increased intelligence FTW!

(PS- I'm joking. Don't do that. It's a shame I have to tell you this)

The stark percentage of ATOTers that are ignorant enough to think that microwaves are radioactive is shocking.

i'd look for a warning sign... if theres not one...keep going... what ever problems you have in life blame it on that and then sue!

Funny prank: remove the shielding grill from a mircowave door, put some cheese in the microwave and tell an unsuspecting friend to look closely at it as it melts. Always gets a big laugh!

yeah, you can't be too careful these days, btw I'd never stick any body part of mine into a running microwave. My old health teacher told us she never uses a microwave because it has radiation in it and it causes cancer. I don't think there's any evidence to suggest this.
