I have a whirlpool microwave, and I have no idea how this happened, but the piece of plastic like tape that goes over the holes on the inside of the microwave door has a huge hole in it. i'm moving out of my apartment soon, and being the nazi's that they are, they'll probably charge me to replace the entire microwave. The sealant/tape is about 18 inches wide by 8 inches high. Anyone know of a B&M store that I could buy it in? I tried Home Depot but they didn't carry it.

Check your yellow pages for an appliance parts store. Make sure you have the model # of the microwave and give 'em a call.

Just replace it with something that "looks right." Who'll know?

Hmmmm.... thinking about it..... 18x8?? just a thin clear covering? Is it just a protective coating that you could peel off entirely? (a thin piece of plastic is NOT going to stop microwaves...)

I thought the only places authorized to make repairs to microwaves were those places that have the ability to test the microwave for leakage afterward.

I know, the people making the repairs do not need doctorates, but you have to find out if you effed up before you grow a third arm or get a suntan that won't quit.

thanks for the replies.....the plastic tape part is on the inside of the microwave.....there is still a layer of glass in between to actually stop the microwaves :)

the tape is just to prevent food from getting in between the little holes you look through and getting on the glass. I will try to find a local appliance store....

Microwave ovens are cheap. Just replace the whole thing with a new one.
This microwave is built in above the stove and isn't cheap (retails for around $400 I think)....
