The scanner is probably just fine, I am not a big fan of their software. The Epson scanner software has a lot more debth, i.e. more control and options.

microtek used to be one of the best brands out there in the mid 90's, but as scanners became more popular, they had to cut corners too meet cost demands. Right now, they are good, but others have went ahead in various ways.

edit...those $30 ones you see in BB are usually just rebadged. My aunt bought one, its alright.

Like Gibson said, they used to be very good. I don't know the quality now, but as far as scanners go, they should be good.
We used to sell alot of them in the mid-90's and I liked them, even though I bought a cannon and then an epson.

I have a Microtek scanner I got a couple years ago. I don't use it much, but I have never had any problems with it. It's kinda slow, though. And I agree that the software is crap.

I got a Microtek Scanmaker E3 SCSI and it is the best scanner I've ever used. It is seven years old and it scans many times faster than my USB Canon scanner I purchased a year ago, at high dpi/resolutions. (The E3 scans in 30 seconds what takes the canon 5 minutes)

I had an x6 (the flim adapter is in my FS list...heh) that I absolutely loved. Crystal clear scans, good color saturation, etc. But my mobo's parallel port fried it. :(
