Hi,
I just bought a Microtech USB Cameramate to use with my digital camera and I'm having all sorts of problems with it.
First of all, I went to install the Windows 98 drivers and it kept locking up my system. After several reboots I finally gave up and got a driver from Microtech, which I was able to install successfully.
I'm still having weird problems though. Sometimes I go to copy files over to the Smart Media and it takes forever. Other times, it will be very fast. When I go to right click on the drive letter and select properties, it hangs for about a minute and even crashes my system sometimes.
I've also had my computer lock up while in the middle of a file transfer. When I go to look at the files after a reboot, the files are all in cryptic characters. It's Kind of like the characters that you see on an Asian site when you don't have the language downloaded on your system. I tried to erase these corrupted files and I got an error, so I had to reformat the card. I did get it to work btw, but I'm still having these weird problems.
Also.. I went to hot swap this device and it locked my computer.
Anyway.. I just wanted to give you a background on the problems that I'm having. Does this sound like a driver problem? Hardware problem?
I've done a little research and it was mentioned that I might be having an IRQ conflict. I looked in the device manager and there are no exclamation marks next to my USB port settings. I do however have some sort of steering sharing my IRQ 10 along with my NIC card on the same IRQ (10) as my USB ports. Could this be a problem?
If it is my NIC card conflicting, could I just install my NIC card in another open PCI slot? Would this fix my problem?
I've never had a problem with any USB products before this. I have used a USB Zip drive and a USB scanner and no problems whatsoever.
Sorry for the book. I just wanted to provide enough information, so it would be clear what problems I'm having with this USB device.
TIA,
Sal
